Bringing Hope to the Downtrodden Across America

"We really enjoyed having Tent Maker’s Travels with us. Patrick has a gift of connecting with and serving dysfunctional people, and there is a lot I have learned from him in the area of serving! Praying for you brothers!"

“We were blessed to have Tentmakers Travels spend a week with us. They came alongside us in a supportive way and did all the footwork for a pancake breakfast in our town. We made contacts that continue to be a blessing!”

“I love to see how God is using Patrick and Matthew to reach the lost through the simple avenue of food! Demonstrating love for our neighbors! If you don’t know where to start with outreach, find people, then feed them! Every one of us can do this! May God’s Kingdom come and His will be done on earth as it is in Heaven!”

“Does the Bible really say we should go visit the homeless, spend time talking with the downtrodden, engaging the neglected in dirty and dangerous spaces? Matthew 25:38–40 implies these ideas… We do not often in our comfortable Christian community venture beyond our comfort zone. Tent Maker’s Travels gives churches an opportunity by hands-on experience to go to the down trodden and lift their day with a plate of fresh hot food and a smiling face that invites hope and love. Appreciation for the challenge Br. Patrick has brought by his drive to reach souls in need of Christ’s love.”

“I had a great experience with the tentmakers. I was part of an outreach in San Diego. I showed up with Bibles and a “Jesus loves you” sign. They provided burgers and food and fed over 200 homeless. Patrick’s interaction with the homeless was inspiring—you could tell he really cared. It was amazing to obey Jesus’ command to care for the poor. I’m thankful to have participated, and I pray for lasting fruit.”

“Getting to jump in with Patrick Matthews in Seattle was a great opportunity to reach the homeless, offer prayer and support, and share the love of God. It helped us understand people’s struggles more intimately. I recommend this to anyone—even if you’ve never done outreach before—as a stepping stone to greater things!”

“Patrick is doing pioneer work that Anabaptist people find difficult to do. He is not just telling us what to do, he is showing us how. He patiently bears with us in our weakness and helps us obey the historic Christian call to serve the disadvantaged. We need continual prodding and practice. We tend to be slow learners.”

“We are well aware that often our interactions with indigent populations become overly demanding. We end up burned out and cynical. But building trust through preparing food together and eating with them in their space might be the answer. Try it! I think you will like it.”
